李方膺，中国清代诗画家、官员，能诗，擅画松竹兰菊，尤长写梅。用笔倔强放纵，不拘成法，苍劲有致，为“扬州八怪”之一。其作品纵横豪放、墨气淋漓，粗头乱服 ，不拘绳墨，意在青藤、白阳、竹憨之间。画梅以瘦硬见称，老干新枝 ，欹侧蟠曲。
今日李先生便将其帐中所藏的一幅李方膺作品发来一赏——《五虎上将图》。

五虎上将，指汉末三国时期，跟随刘备建立蜀汉政权的五位将军。分别为关羽、张飞、马超、黄忠、赵云。陈寿最早作《三国志》时，将五人并列合为一传，但还并未提出五虎上将的概念。
General Wuhu refers to the five generals who followed Liu Bei to establish the Shuhan regime in the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms Period. They are Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Huang Zhong and Zhao Yun. 而后经过漫长的历史演变，这五人被塑造成五虎将，并在文学作品、历史书籍、个人作品集都有不同程度的记录，在民间更是以艺术的形式被广为流传，随着时代的发展，五人的人物顺序也出现各种版本的改变。清乾隆皇帝主持修订的《四库全书》也将五虎收录。

此幅《五虎上将图》上有两枚红印清晰可辨，已次辛亥金农题：“李方膺清代画家，字晴江，号虬仲、秋池，江苏人氏，自号借园主人擅长松竹梅山水，精人物，用笔芬劲有致，此五虎上将图写三图人物帮事生动真实各具性格，实为人物长卷，画中之神品也。”
